Name: Anne Pearce
Year Inducted: 2015 Anne as been a member of South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club since 1993 when she joined and completed her Bronze Medallion. Anne's Achievements: * Bronze Medallion on the 14th Nov 1993, * 10 Year National Patrol Service Award 21st April 2006, * IRB Crew Certificate on the 3rd Feb 2007, * Spinal Management Certificate on the 14th Oct 2007, * Defibrillator Certificate on the 14th Oct 2007, * 15 Year National Patrol Service Award 24th May 2013, * Attended Officials coarse during the 1992/93 season, * Acted as chaperone for Branch, Country, State & Aussie teams, * Held the position of JAC Secretary for a number of years during the 90’s, * Held the position of Director of Administration of SWR SLSC for 4 seasons 2001/02 until 2004/05, * Held the position of general committee member for many years, * Has been representing to club by timing at the Junior triathlon for 18 years and with water safety for the Senior triathlon, * Started negotiations with the SWR RSL Vets to apply for a grant to refurbish the clubs GYM, * Gained her training certificate so she could run classes for the RSL Vets and club members. Anne is currently the Vice President and Gym Coordinator of SWR SLSC, a member of the Bay swim committee and Gym Coordinator. |
Name: Mick Adams
Year Inducted: 2013 Mick joined South West Rocks SLSC in 1967 and went on to gain his Qualifying Certificate and Bronze Medallion before going on to be a Council Beach Inspector for 7 seasons during School Holiday periods as well as being an active patrolling member and Patrol Captain of the Club He also became the Club’s youngest Secretary to date – at age sixteen, a position that he held until he went away for University studies. Name: Rodney J. McDonagh
Year Inducted: 2006 Rod McDonagh’s distinguished career in Surf Life Saving began when he joined Cape Hawke SLSC in 1979.After obtaining his Bronze Medallion in 1981 he served continuously in many positions at his club including Club Captain and Competition Captain. He also competed in all disciplines during this time including the IRB in what was to later become a special interest to him. During this period he became involved with the Branch and served as a member of the Finance Committee and Chaired the Competition Committee among others. Work took him further north but he wasn’t lost to Surf Life Saving, becoming a member of South West Rocks SLSC. He enthusiastically embraced his new club and was elected President in 1997 and still holds this office 20 years on. Rod continued working at a Branch Level and was elected Branch President in 2011. His dedication to all Mid North Coast clubs and his willingness to engage with all stakeholders has made him a valued member of the community. In the last two years he has continued to drive the very successful NSW Country Championships in his role as Chair of the Organising Committee. Between 1990 and 2016, Rod officiated at 12 World Life Saving Championships including roles as a Starter and Deputy Referee. He was acknowledged for his efforts with the International Lifesaving Federation Platinum Medal presented to him at Rescue 2016 in The Netherlands. Rod is a Life Member of the club and Branch and has made a sustained and lasting impact on Surf Life Saving on the Mid North Coast. In Rod's first year with South West Rocks SLSC he was elected to the position of IRB Captain, which he held until 1996-97 season. Rod was elected President of South Wst Rocks at the commencement of the 1997-98 season and still holds the position. Rod is a keen IRB competitor and has officiated at 10 World Surf Life Saving Championship Carnivals. Rod has been selected in numerous Mid North Coast Branch Teams as Manager. For his tireless work for the club, Rod was awarded Life Membership in 2006. |
Name: Bruce M. Caldwell
Year Inducted: 1979 Club Captain 1976-81. Treasurer 1970-74 and 1985-88. President 1982-85. Chief Instructor 1968-70 and 1976-1987. Registrar since 1977 and still going strong. Life Governor 2009. Bruce has been the linchpin of this club for many years. He has spent thousands of hours performing Club and Branch registration duties and is a guru on SurfGuard and with a digital camera. Bruce Caldwell joined South West Rocks in 1964 and gained his Bronze Medallion in that year. Bruce was Club Captain from 1976-77 season until 1980-81. He was elected to the President's position for the 1982-83 season and continued in the position until the 1984-85 season. Bruce has represented the club in many Mid North Coast Branch Teams where he competed in Surf Events, R & R Events, March Pasts and Boat events. Bruce was awarded Life Membership of South West Rocks in 1979, was made a Life Governor in 2009, was awarded Life Membership of Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast in 1995 and was made a Life Member of Surf Life Saving New South Wales in 2002. Bruce was awarded the Surf Life Saving Australia National President's Medal at the recent 2010 Australian Championships. |
Name: Anthony J. Hayes OAM
Year Inducted: 1983 Anthony (Tony) Hayes has had a long history with South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club. He has been a tireless supporter of the SWRSLSC for many years. Tony still runs the Friday night raffles which raise approximately $10000.00 per year for the purchase of competition equipment. OAM: (2014) For service to the surf lifesaving movement, and to the community. Mr Hayes is currently a life member of Surf Life Saving NSW and was the President of South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club from 1989-1997, Deputy President from 1997-2010, Secretary from 1979-1988 and Club Delegate to Mid-North Coast Region for 10 years. A member since 1968 Mr Hayes was also President of the Mid-North Coast Regional Branch from 1994-1997, Secretary from 1980-1994, District Supervisor from 1993-1998 and Surf Sports Official, for over 20 years. Mr Hayes has also been recognised as a Branch Volunteer of the Year for the Mid North Coast. Positions Held: Secretary 1979-1988. President 1988-1997. Branch Life Member 1994. State Life Member 1999. Name: Garry D. Gillies
Club Captain 1969-1973. Garry Gillies has been a member of South West Rocks Surf Club for over 50 years. He gained his Bronze Medallion in November 1953 and was Club Captain for the seasons of 1969-70 to 1972-73. Garry was given Life Membership of South West Rocks SLSC in 1971. Garry was also one of the club's top surf swimmers winning many Surf Races, Surf Belt Races and Surf Team events as well as R&R events and March Past Events. He also represented the club in numerous Mid North Coast Branch Teams. Garry still competes for the club and has won numerous medals in Country, State and Australian Championship Master Events. |
Name: Kevin M. Ruscoe
Year Inducted: 1971 Kevin Ruscoe came from New Zealand in 1949 for a holiday and stayed. He joined South West Rocks Surf Club in 1952 and gained his Bronze Medallion on the 3rd January 1953. Kevin was President of the club from the 1965-66 season until the 1967-68 season. He was again elected to the President's chair for the 1969-70 season and continued in that position until the 1979-80 season. Kevin was made a life member of SWR Surf Club in 1971, Life Governor of SWRSLSC in 1992, Life Member of Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast in 1984 and a Life Member of Surf Life Saving NSW in 1990. Kevin also held the position of President of the Surf Life saving Mid North Coast Branch from 1980-81 season until the 1989-90 season. Kevin worked tirelessly for the Surf Life saving movement for many years. |
Name: Gordon 'Coogan' Lawrence
Club Captain 1955-57 and 1964-66. Coogan joined South West Rocks SLSC in the mid 1940's and gained his Bronze Medallion in 1946. In 1954 "Coogan" was selected in the NSW State Surf Lifesaving Team to contest the interstate competition at the Australian Championship Carnival which was held at Southport on the Gold Coast. "Coogan" was part of the R&R Team which won the gold medal at the Championships. "Coogan" was Club Captain of South West Rocks Surf Club for the 1965-66 & 1966-67 seasons. In his time of competition, "Coogan" was one of the club's top surf swimmers and won many Surf Races, Surf Belt Races and Surf Team events for the club. He also represented the club in numerous Mid North Coast Branch Teams. Gordon "Coogan" was made a Life Members of South West Rocks SLSC in 1966. |

W Tom Saul (or old Tom as he was known) was a keen active member, who went on to be one of the best officials the Association had. Tom was a top instructor with SWR. He held the Examiners Certificate, was a District Supervisor and held the executive positions of President and Club Captain with South West Rocks SLSC. Tom was also made a Life Member and Life Governor of South West Rocks SLSC, Life member of Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast Branch and a Life member of Surf Life Saving New South Wales. Life Governor 1984. President 1959-63 and 1968-69, Club Captain 1936-1947. Branch Life Membership 1966, State Life Membership 1978. In his days as a competitor Tom was a champion sculler, he won the Australian light weight sculling championship in the early 1920's. He went on to become one of the best officials in the local association. He was an instructor at SWRSLSC, held the position of examiner and was district supervisor for the Mid North Coast Branch. Name: Reginald Saunders
Reg Saunders devoted most of his life to Surf Life Saving, being an active member, he also had the responsibility of being the Branch Superintendent for eight years and Branch President for eight years, the positions on some occasions being held concurrently. Reg was instrumental in encouraging and instructing many members of the Kinchela Boys Home to become life savers. He was the successful coach of the Australian Champion R&R team. For his outstanding service he was made a life member of South West Rocks SLSC, Surf Life Saving Mid North Coast Branch, Surf Life Saving New South Wales and Surf Life Saving Australia. Year Inducted: 1925 Reverend W Harris-Walker what the first club president of South West Rocks Surf Life Saving Club. He led the club for six seasons and was instrumental in having the first club house built. He saw the first Bronze Medallions attained in 1923 and the first life membership gained in 1924. |
